Spartanburg S.C. (May 14, 2019) – A new non-profit organization that seeks to promote independence, healthy choices and active learning among Spartanburg County’s 50-plus residents announces Shelby Ward will serve as their Public Information intern.
Fifty Upstate, the result of years of planning and research by numerous community partners, is focused on retaining and attracting retirees into an integrated system of service, promoting involvement and designing programs that meet the changing needs of the area’s growing 50-plus population.
Ward graduated last week from the University of South Carolina Upstate with a bachelor of arts in public relations and health communications. She was on the Dean’s and Chancellor’s List while at USC Upstate and graduated with honors from Boiling Springs High School.
“I was immediately impressed with Shelby’s ability to absorb information and quickly accomplish tasks assigned to her,” shared Fifty Upstate Executive Director Yvonne Harper. “We are fortunate to have her join Fifty Upstate at this critical time when we are launching our website, fiftyupstate.org and preparing for our first fundraising event.”
Ward will be responsible for photography, web and social media content, writing and distributing press releases and public service announcements and assisting Fifty Upstate staff with marketing and promotion of collaborative programming throughout the community.
“We as a community must seek out ways to consistently engage 50+ residents, not only to keep them active and healthy, but to benefit from their life experiences through volunteer and leadership opportunities. The dissemination of information to the public is vital to the work of Fifty Upstate,” added Harper.
